Community Oriented Policing Section (COPS) Programs

Teen Law Enforcement Academy – for youth ages 15 to 18 to learn more about the police department. Sessions meet for eleven weeks on Thursdays evening in the Spring and Fall. Sessions include all aspects of the police department and include a trip to the Sheriff’s and Fire Departments. Students are encouraged to assist with Community projects during the year.

International Academy (TC Williams HS) Youth 'Common Goals' Soccer Program - Our School Resource Officers has organized a soccer program for at-risk students attending the International Academy at TC Williams HS.

Thanksgiving meals – provide meals to underprivileged families so they can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with their families. Families are chosen by our COPS officers who interact with the families on a daily basis.

Christmas ‘Shop with a COP’ – partners an officer with a child to shop for a toy for them.

COPS for Christmas – delivery of toys to disadvantaged children throughout the city. One weekend in December, toys are delivered to neighborhoods across the city by Santa and his elves (COPS officers).

Community events – COPS host barbecue events across the city for National Night Out, Senior Community Appreciation and sports games.

Community Movie Days/Nights – COPS will have a movie day/night in communities across the city for the youth.

Youth Awareness – COPS officers will take kids to sporting games such as the Washington Nationals ball games, Wizards basketball games, and more during the year.
